Book Review: A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas

A quick follow-up novel to A Court of Wings and Ruin that is supposed to connect to the events that will happen in A Court of Silver Flames, A Court of Frost and Starlight is mainly uneventful. Honestly, it mostly just felt like a Christmas story with all of our favorite characters. Check out my full review of A Court of Frost and Starlight below.

Book Information

Feyre is adjusting to life as High Lady of the Night Court. As the winter solstice draws nearer, Feyre and her friends try to celebrate and pick up the pieces of their lives after the war against Hybern.

Review | Heidi Dischler

I’m gonna be honest here: hardly anything happens in this novel. Like, at all. I’m not sure if any of these events will actually relate to the next novel or not, which is why I ended up reading it in the first place.

Basically, the events of the novels are as follows: Feyre buys gifts for her friends to celebrate the winter solstice, Nesta is as moody and rude as ever, Rhys and Feyre do a lot of bonding (if ya know what I mean), and basically everyone reflects on the hardships they faced in the battle against Hybern. Sound interesting? Yeah, I didn’t find it interesting either.

I think that’s all I really have to say about this novel to be honest. There’s a reason it’s the lowest rated of the series.

If you want to know all the spoilers so you don’t have to read it, check below.

Spoilers ahead.

To sum it up in a few sentences:

  • Apparently fae women have two excruciating periods a year (don’t know why we needed this information).
  • The Spring and Autumn courts are trying to go to human territories (well, really only Autumn, but Tamlin isn’t putting up a fight even though his lands border the human territories).
  • Illyrian warriors apparently are on the verge of a civil war.
  • Feyre and Rhys decide to start trying to have their blue-eyed, black-haired boy (this was honestly super sweet and totally worth reading just for this scene).

That is all.

Overall, I don’t think it’s really necessary to read this novel to continue the series unless you really just want more time with the characters. There’s no action like the other novels. There’s one steamy scene. There’s a whole lot of friendship, though, and that was super heartwarming. Just don’t have high hopes for this to be an elaborate addition to the series and you’ll be fine. It’s super sweet overall, just not sure if I would’ve read it had I known more going into it.
