Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
A literal whirlwind of a fantasy novel, A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) by Sarah J. Maas has won over my steely fantasy-void heart. I will never be the same. All right. Okay. Someone pinch me. WHY DID I WAIT THIS LONG TO READ THIS BOOK????? I am literally sitting here trying to sift through my thoughts because I just have so many. This novel? It was pure bliss the entire time I read it. And I have said many times that I’m not a fantasy reader… but here I am eating my words. This book and Fourth Wing have effectively turned me into a fantasy girl.
Okay, enter Ferye who is a literal beast of a girl just trying to survive and keep her family from starving. She kills a faerie, breaking an ancient treaty, and is forced to go into the faerie world to live forever (this reminded me of Beauty and the Beast so much and I’m not even mad about it). I love Tamlin. I love Lucien. Hell, I even love Rhysand. To be completely honest, I wouldn’t be upset if she ended up with any one of these wonderful faerie men at the end of the series. I liked them all that much.
All I really have to say about this book without spoiling it is that the writing is absolutely MAGNIFICENT, the plot is to die for, and the characters are worth the read in themselves. Just go pick it up. Don’t be like me and wait until everyone has been raving about it for years.

Okay, okay, okay, so I can’t hold it in anymore. There’s so much to talk about and so little space in one blog post. First, I guessed there was some kind of “chosen one” theme with Ferye because of all the weir mentions of them “never willingly” lying to her, or “you’ve done this and they still don’t see it”. Like yep. Ferye is the key to unlocking the curse. Quite literally it turns out. This is the legitimate Beauty and the Beast retelling of my dreams.
The other thing: once Ferye is facing her trials and she finally figures out the riddle and says that it’s love??? I melted. Literally melted where I sat. My heart will never be the same, but of course she comes back to life because this is Beauty and the Beast after all. I am very interested to see where things go with Rhys… and won’t be waiting long to pick up the next book to find out 👀.
Overall, what more can I say but that hundreds of thousands of other reviewers can’t be wrong? This book is well worth it even if you aren’t into fantasy. It had all the romance and action and thrills that any girl could ask for. I will never talk down on fantasy again.
