Book Review: Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan

A romance between two broken people and a chance to heal, Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan is a simplistic novel for those of you who like easy romances. Read below for my Archer’s Voice review.

Book Information

Bree is reeling in the wake of her father’s tragic death. So, picking up everything and deciding to move to a small town for a break is what she really needs to decompress.

Then she meets Archer, the town pariah who is mute and has a tragic backstory of his own. Together, they find love, healing, and what they need to finally move on.

Review | Heidi Dischler

There’s not a lot that I want to say about this novel, so this review will probably be really short….

First of all, Booktok made me do it. I literally only read this book because everyone raved about it, and boy can I say that I was disappointed. It’s marketed as a tragic romance that will make you cry and laugh and swoon. I don’t think I did any of those things in any order. To be quite honest (and blunt, so, I’m sorry Mia Sheridan, if you read this), I was so bored. I had to force myself to finish this just because I refuse to mark a book as DNF (*did not finish* for those of you who don’t necessarily keep up with book lingo). In my defense, I’ve read reviews on my novel, Words We Never Say, where readers talked about how they marked it as DNF. Yes, the reviews hurt. But I also get five star reviews on that same novel. Not every story is for every person. Archer’s Voice was definitely not for me.

Now, can I pinpoint a reason besides my boredom for why I barely got through this? Several reasons, actually. First, I felt no chemistry between the leads, which is really bad since this is a romance novel. Second, there is absolutely no plot whatsoever. You get this little storylines that are supposed to be these huge reveals but are really predictable, so you’re basically just waiting to read it to confirm what you already know. Third, (I promise I’ll quit ranting after this), the writing style really bugged me. Now, this is obviously just personal preference, but there were way too many steamy scenes and no character building. Also, I felt like the writing just fell flat without any voice. That is all. I’m done bashing this novel.

Overall, I know a lot of people who really enjoyed this story. I am not one of them unfortunately. Take my review with a grain of salt, but if you are anything like me (an English major who really likes plotting and character development), this novel will probably not be for you either.
