Book Review: Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. by Judy Blume

With this being probably the youngest reading level I’ve reviewed on my blog, I’m excited to share with you guys my Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. review. In all honesty, I read this book since the movie will be released soon 🙂

Book Information

Margaret is ready to grow up. Every day she waits to grow, she talks to God and asks for his help even though she’s not sure if she even believes in him.

Throughout the novel, Margaret learns what it means to grow up and how religion can shape your life with any path you choose.

Review | Heidi Dischler

This was such a cute and heartwarming story about growing up and the challenges that come along with it. While I don’t particularly remember wanting to get my period that bad (I mean, if you knew about periods would you really want one??), I do remember the hardships that came from that difficult age.

With the religion part, I absolutely loved that it was her choice and she always fought for her right to choose (whatever that choice may be). Margaret was headstrong and quirky and always wanted to be normal. The ways that this novel explored what normal was made me very happy, especially when it came to Margaret’s classmate, Laura.

Overall, this story will definitely work for a younger audience and younger girls will relate to Margaret’s experiences. Especially when it comes to boys, being normal, and growing up.
