Book Review: Funny Story by Emily Henry
I mean, we all already knew that Emily Henry’s latest novel would be an epic romance that automatically gets at least 4 out of 5 stars (spoiler alert, it hit the mark). This novel did not disappoint! Check out my full review for Funny Story below.
Book Information
Daphne finally thought she had it all: the big house, the perfect fiancé, and the perfect job. After her fiancé cheats on her, though, all she has left is her job and a new roommate, Miles, who happens to be the guy who was dating the girl that Daphne’s fiancé cheated on her with. Now, Miles and Daphne are determined to show the two cheaters that they are perfectly happy without them. Along the way, though, it somehow becomes true.

Filled with heart, laughter, and so much love, I truly can’t tell you enough just how much I enjoyed Funny Story. I knew as soon as Emily Henry announced her new novel that I’d be reading it. After all, Happy Place has earned its spot in my favorite romance novels ever. I just didn’t realize how much I’d like it. To be honest, this doesn’t really have much to do with the review, but if I had to rank Emily Henry’s romance novels, it would be (from least favorite to greatest of all time) People We Meet on Vacation, Book Lovers, Beach Read, Funny Story, and then Happy Place.
So, in this story, we meet Daphne and Miles, two people who just got dumped. Because of this, Daphne has nowhere to stay and ends up being Miles’ roommate (cue the forced proximity trope). Daphne’s fiancé always talked bad about Miles and made him out to be a lazy slob, but as Daphne gets to know him better, she learns that he’s one of the nicest men she’s ever met. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how we end up with romance. The chemistry between Daphne and Miles is blatantly obvious and there is just enough going on in their lives to stop them from being together happily, which is where you get most of the story.
Honestly, if you’ve read any other Emily Henry book, you know what to expect. That’s exactly what people want and it was exactly what I needed: a chance to turn my brain off and enjoy the romance.
Overall, this is my second favorite Emily Henry book now. I absolutely loved Funny Story and shouldn’t have waited so long to read it (I was supposed to read it during its release week, but I got held up). If you love romance novels, you’re absolutely going to love this one. 5 out of 5 stars for sure.
