Book Information

Juliette is alive and currently living with Warner. She doesn’t know which of her friends are alive or dead, but she does know one thing: Anderson will pay for what he did. Together, Juliette and Warner form a plan to take down the Reestablishment and it just might threaten to destroy everything they’ve ever known.

Alright. Someone really overhyped this series. Like, I was finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with Destroy Me and Unravel Me (definitely NOT Fracture Me). Then I get to this book and it had SO much potential. There were so many good things about this book, but there were also so many things that made it just… lackluster. I’ll go into all the details below of the good, the bad, and the downright depressing.

So, let’s get started with the plot. Basically, Juliette wakes up after the events of Unravel Me and Warner takes care of her. They form a plan to assassinate his father and Juliette eventually finds out Kenji, Adam, James, and a few others are still alive. So they all team up and train… and train… and train… Then when the finale comes up, it lasts maybe like a chapter? Super underwhelming and didn’t feel well-plotted. I would have to say that most of the stars got taken off because of this.

As far as characters go, I always knew I loved Warner. I even predicted he’d come back as a love interest when I reviewed Shatter Me. Juliette’s character grew a TON. I also have to say that despite not having hardly any personality whatsoever in the first books, Adam finally does something noteworthy (albeit aggravating) in this book. This book definitely earned the most stars with character development.

The writing style is still all flourish and I feel like many people wouldn’t like that, but I do. It doesn’t change as the series gets further in, so if you didn’t like the first book, you definitely won’t like this one.

One thing that I wish I could change is the action aspect of this series. I feel like it has the potential to be this awesome romance that is also an awesome action story, but the author chose to stick with the romance and have the dystopian war as background noise. This series could have been so so much more.

Overall, I’m disappointed in where the series is going. I think the idea and the characters have so much potential, but the actual execution isn’t there. The ending was rushed and the plot was basically nonexistent in favor of more romantic scenes. I’d give this a 3/5. Here’s hoping that we’ll get a better setup in the next novel…
