Book Review: The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young
With time travel and some crazy family dynamics, this book will definitely leave your head spinning (I still can’t decide if it’s in a good way or a bad way). Check out my full review of The Unmaking of June Farrow below!
Book Information
June Farrow has just lost her grandmother to the Farrow curse. It’s a curse of the mind that makes you go crazy. But when one of her grandmother’s oldest friends tells June to go through the door that she keeps seeing, June ends up in another time. She realizes that the Farrow curse isn’t one of going crazy, but rather, time traveling. In this new timeline, June finds the family she always wanted and must end her curse once and for all even if it kills her.

Alright, so, yeah. The beginning of this book was 5/5 for sure. I even liked the middle. So why did I rate this 3/5? Because what in the actual frick was that ending? I am beyond confused and it kind of ruined the whole novel for me.
As far as writing and plot goes, this story pulls you in and the writing is beautiful. I think the characters definitely could’ve been developed more because I didn’t really have a strong attachment to them. I also think the ending needs a TON of work.
Spoilers ahead.
Like I said, I am beyond confused. If June ended the curse, why is she seeing her mother being born? Why is her daughter still having to care for her when her daughter gets old? I’m just so confused; someone please explain it to me.
Also, did the June who tried to fix the timeline just die? I’m all for open-ended endings, but I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. I even reread the last chapter like three times and I still can’t make heads or tails of it.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book up until the ending. The premise was interesting and the story was really great… until the ending. Read at your own risk 🙂
