Book Review: Things We Hide From the Light by Lucy Score

After reading and review Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score, I was super excited to get my hands on Things We Hide From the Light. Although, I can’t say that I liked this one nearly as much as the first. Read below for my Things We Hide From the Light review 🙂

Book Information

Nash Morgan can’t seem to recover from the gunshot wound that almost killed him. Sure, physically, he’s fine, but mentally? He couldn’t be more broken.

Lina has always had issues with relationships and commitments. After a health scare in her teen years that almost killed her, Lina doesn’t want to ever be smothered again and a relationship would do that to her.

Together, Nash and Lina find that maybe a relationship is just what they need to heal and survive.

Alright, so there’s a lot that I could say about this book. Most of which would probably have me burned at the stake by Lucy Score’s devoted readers. I wanted to like this book, I really did, but it just didn’t… do it for me. I’m not biased either because I rated Things We Never Got Over five stars.

So, here we go. The main thing that bothered me about this book was that there is literally no plot. Like, okay, I get that Duncan Hugo is still out there and all that good stuff, but really I felt like we were just aimlessly following Nash and Lina around as they pined for each other. At least the first book had a more put together plot than this. I was honestly bored with the “do I want him/her? Am I too damaged?” routine that we saw from the first book.

The second thing? I really didn’t like Lina that much. Her character bothered me a lot and I’m not sure if it was her “I don’t care” attitude or what, but she was not really my favorite character. I definitely liked Nash, though.

Last thing to gripe about: did anyone else not really feel chemistry between Nash and Lina? Was that just me? Please tell me I’m not alone in this….

Okay, let me go ahead and say some of the things I liked. First, it was a predictable romance that had steamy scenes in it. Sometimes you just need a book like this to escape into that doesn’t give you too many life lessons to ponder about. Second, I enjoyed seeing all of my favorite characters again from the first book. Waylay is the best as always. Third? Dog sidekicks are my weakness. Piper was adorable and the way Nash looked after her was adorable, too.

Overall, while this follow-up to Things We Never Got Over wasn’t the best thing ever, fans of the first novel will still enjoy getting to go back to Knockmeout with their favorite characters. Also, you won’t catch me saying no to a good steamy scene.
