Books with Summer Vibes
It’s finally starting to feel like summer, so I decided to make a list of all the books that give summer vibes. Just a few things that get books on this list:
- Road Trips (because who doesn’t love a good road trip??)
- Beach location
- Summer romances
Doesn’t take much, but bonus points to books that have all three đ In this list, I’ll have a mixture of adult books and young adult books. I often find myself switching between the two age groups, so all my posts have a mixture of the two. Below you’ll find my full list and a video of all the books that give me summer vibes.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy by Jenny Han
I read the first book in this trilogy literally on the beach. The Summer I Turned Pretty wasn’t necessarily my favorite book ever, but I really liked It’s Not Summer Without You and We’ll Always Have Summer a lot more than the first one.Â
Set on the beach with a romance between two brothers, this trilogy is sure to give you all the summer vibes. It also helps that the series is on Amazon, too, so you can watch it after you read the books đ
Jackpot by Nic Stone
This book in a nutshell is about this girl who is trying to find the person with an unclaimed winning lottery ticket in the hopes that they’ll share some of the money with her. It’s a road trip book with a boy, so what’s not to love? There’s a little romance mixed in, too, so I definitely thought it should be on this list even if it isn’t necessarily a “summer” book. I literally adore road trips and this gave off road trip/treasure hunting vibes so it’s sure to make you feel like it’s summertime.
Literally any book by Emily Henry
Alright, for those of you who have read any of the books below, you know what I mean. Look at those covers. Even the titles scream “summer.” I mean, Beach Read? C’mon. Each has romance and most of them except Book Lovers is beachy in its setting.Â
I have reviews for People We Meet on Vacation, Book Lovers, and Happy Place on my blog, but I read Beach Read so long ago that it was before my blogging era. Looks like I need to get on that review đ
Want to know which one is my favorite? Spoiler alert, it’s totally Happy Place.Â
Breathless by Jennifer Niven
Breathless has the summer trip, summer romance, and beach setting all down. Bonus points for Jennifer Niven’s amazing writing. This is sure to have you nostalgic for those summer romances that you know won’t last but are special all the same. I read this one in the winter and let me tell you, it was like smelling coconut sunscreen and listening to the whoosh of the waves hitting the sand.Â
99 Days by Katie Cotugno
I can’t even tell you when I read this. Maybe junior year of high school? But I still remember the whole book, which tells you something.Â
Basically, it’s about this girl who is being shunned by her whole small town because of the romance she had between two brothers that ruined the brothers relationship. It got so bad that she left town for a whole school year. Then she comes back for the summer and somehow falls into the same situation with the same two brothers.Â
This book was so fun and summery that it made a lasting impression. Highly recommend even though this one is definitely way on the YA side.Â
Paper Towns by John Green
This is an oldie but a goodie. Paper Towns has a little bit of romance and a lot of fun road trip vibes. If you remember this book, or even watched the movie, you know that this will put you in the summer mood in a heartbeat.Â
Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover
So, I’m pretty sure Heart Bones is Colleen Hoover’s newest YA novel. She has the Hopeless series and the Slammed series, but those were written before she  became super mega popular, so they almost have a different feel to them.Â
Heart Bones has summer romance, summer setting, and a summer trip. So, will you fall in love? Absolutely. You can see how this novel ranked among all the other Colleen Hoover books I read in my tier ranking post.Â
The Newcomer by Mary Kay Andrews
Here’s another adult recommendation. The Newcomer took me by surprise by how much I absolutely adored this book. This woman basically takes her niece after her sister gets murdered to this summer vacation town to hide from the person who killed her sister. With a little bit of romance, a lot of the beach, and a mystery thrown in just for fun, this book is sure to have you feeling like you’re relaxing at your own vacation house.Â
2,697 Pages by Heidi Dischler
Don’t laugh because I included my own novel on this list đ I honestly believe that this will put you in the mood for summer. 2,697 Pages is about a girl who goes on a road trip to find her mom. The best part? She has to go with her ex-best friend/ex-lover. You’ll get the ultimate enemies-to-lovers trope, a beach setting, and a road trip that’ll make you swoon.Â
If you’re a writer, then you know that your characters basically become your favorite people, which is also why I’m recommending this novel because Penny and Tyler are basically my favorite.Â
Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch
A trip to Italy, a summer romance, and a great “finding yourself” plot arc, Love & Gelato is the perfect wholesome YA read to make you want to travel the world.Â
This was literally one of my favorite reads of 2022, so I promise you won’t be disappointed if you like YA books! Just don’t watch the Netflix adaptation because it kinda sucked….
