Just Try

A poem by Heidi Dischler

And you try so hard to be perfect,

And you try so hard to be the best.

You try so hard to be a good worker,

To be better than the rest.

You try so hard to be happy

And you try so hard to be good.

You try so hard to make the world better,

You often get misunderstood.

And you try so hard to help people

That you forget to help yourself,

And you lose some parts along the way,

Like dust gathering on a shelf.

But the sad thing about trying hard,

And doing the best that you can,

Is you often don’t meet your goals

No matter how tall you stand.

So you might as well be happy,

And try your best all the same.

Even if things don’t work out,

You’re still the winner of the game.
