A poem by Heidi Dischler
It’s Life who leads you into the shadows
And Life who leads you out.
It’s words like poison coming from our mouths
That fill our minds with doubt.
It’s every sneer, goodbye, and go the hell away
Burdening our leaden hearts.
It’s the searing pain we cause one another
That will tear us all apart.
It’s rain that morphs into darkness
Before our very eyes.
It’s a person who earned your feeble trust
Just to shatter it all with lies.
It’s those who never learned to forgive,
Or those who don’t care at all.
It’s the ones who can never fully understand
Why others would want them to fall.
It’s a path that’s led by darkness
But was never required to be.
It’s the darkness in our very hearts
That cause us not to see.
It’s the paths we choose that lead away
From the kindness we used to know.
It’s the kindness one should always remember
Before they ever let someone go.
