Mother Cabrini knows that she needs to expand her outreach. There are more children. More people who need help. With her persistence, drive, and mission as a Catholic nun, Mother Cabrini goes to New York to help the immigrant Italian’s who are impoverished and degraded by the Americans. Her healing touch and ambition knows no bounds, changing an immeasurable amount of lives.

As a Catholic, I expected a lot from this movie about a Catholic saint. My parents expected a lot, too, as we all huddled together for our movie night. While we got a lot out of this movie, there was still a lot to be desired as well.

The human aspect of this movie was amazing. Just seeing Cabrini’s heart and her drive and her will to make the lives of the less fortunate better makes you want to go out and begin your own mission. However, what this movie misses is the religious aspect of it. My parents and I agree that there was not a lot of God in this movie. You had a lot of Cabrini manhandling her way to what she wants for her orphans and the oppressed Italian immigrants. You didn’t get a lot of Cabrini talking to God and praying to God. I think there could have been many powerful moments in prayer as Cabrini was brought to her lowest, and as a Catholic saint, we can all agree that God was definitely involved in her life more than what they showed in the movie.

Now, is this a bad movie because of that? Absolutely not. I think that putting too much religion in a movie like this scares people off. I would have liked just a little bit more, though.

With the cinematography and actual dialogue and writing of the characters, I absolutely fell in love with it all. There were several quotes where I paused the movie just to write them down (I put one at the end of this review for you guys). But there were many heartbreaking scenes that really make you sit there and think, “Did we really treat people like this?” And the sad part about that is that many people still treat others this badly if not worse. That’s the great thing about this movie, though, because it shows you that there are people out there who are willing to sacrifice everything just to make the world a better place.

Overall, this movie gives you everything you need to believe in humanity again. If you want something that is going to tug at your heartstrings, pull a few tears from your eyes, and make you feel all warm and glowy at the end of the movie, this is the one for your. 4 out of 5 stars.
