Movie Review: Ordinary Angels (2024)

Faith in humanity is restored. Hilary Swank already makes this an automatic watch for me, but the absolute heart put into this movie makes it memorable and beautiful. Check out my full review of Ordinary Angels below.

An alcoholic hairdresser (Hilary Swank) finds meaning in her life as she tries to help a father (Alan Ritchson) who is not only struggling with the loss of his wife and the mother of his children, but who is also trying to race against the clock to pay off his debt and help his little girl get a liver transplant. In sometimes miraculous ways, this hairdresser helps him pay off large chunks of his debt and move forward with the little girl’s transplant.

Ordinary Angels 2024 Movie Review

Review | Heidi Dischler

I’m not gonna lie, I watched this move because of Hilary Swank. She has a huge repertoire of amazing movies, and this one is no different. The acting by Alan Ritchson and Hilary Swank drove this movie exactly where I’m sure the directors wanted it to hit: right in your heart and soul.

This review isn’t going to be long just for the sole reason that this is one of those “you know what you’re getting into” right when you start watching it. A lot of heartache. A lot of pain. But a whole lot of hope, too. These types of movies are the ones that the phrase “restored my faith in humanity” belong to. The premise sounds absolutely dreadful, doesn’t it? A little girl who lost her mom now is dying herself because she can’t get a liver transplant. Yeah. Gut wrenching. But man when you get to the ending, and you realize that this movie truly is based on a true story, your heart will be so full you won’t even be able to stand it.

To be completely honest, these are the types of movies I live for. Hilary Swank was absolutely amazing, and while her character often had her own selfish reasons for helping, she still did so much more than most people who knew the family.

Things to know before going into this movie:

  • You will most likely cry your eyes out.
  • You might stare at the ceiling for a few hours after finishing this movie.
  • You’ll definitely be smiling through your tears.

If this sounds like something that interests you, definitely give it a watch.

Overall, this did exactly what I needed it to do: make me cry. I released many unwanted emotions, felt happy after the movie was over, and never felt like I wasted my time. 4.5/5 stars for sure. But then again, I do love these cheesy movies, so some people might not feel the same way.
