So, I went to my mom’s house and my mom, brother, and I decided to watch this movie. My mom said she’d only watch a movie with me if it wasn’t romance (I’m a sucker for a good romance movie, you guys), so horror it was. I’ll just say this: definitely didn’t jump even once.
Horror movies are very hit or miss for me. They either scare the absolute shit out of me, or (like this one) make me and whoever is watching it with me laugh our butts off as we count down who is left standing at the end.
This specific horror movie was comical in a not good way and often left me scratching my head wondering how the heck the screenwriters thought that the script made sense. The actors were good, but the story was not there at all. There were a few romantic scenes, but not really enough chemistry to even really care. I can’t go over much more without going over spoilers, so I’m gonna hop into those below.
Spoilers ahead.
Literally there were so many things that made me just shake my head in this movie. The first girl who died, Elise (Larsen Thompson), her death was categorized as an ACCIDENT after that ladder came down on her like five times. Absolutely would not be considered an accident. Secondly, like how the hell did Paxton (Jacob Batalon) survive? He said it was because of his roommate, but seriously? That was beyond anticlimactic and honestly made me so mad. I will say this though, the idea to read the astrologer’s tarot cards made so much sense and was a great way to break the curse. THAT felt satisfying. Everything else? Not so much.
Overall this movie was a break from reality that I didn’t really need and left me feeling more unsatisfied than anything else. Not really scary, definitely no jump scares (at least for me), and the story sucked as a whole. The actors did their job well, but there really wasn’t a lot to work with in terms of plot. Wouldn’t recommend this to anyone looking for a scary movie that will give them chills and an actual storyline.
